Wedding Venues in Johannesburg:
We all love a wedding with a unique twist, right? So why not go against the norm, and have a super luxe Winter Wedding? The Winter season allows for rich textures, warm and deep colours and brings an element of fairytale wonder. Are you sold? We thought so – but now you have to find the perfect venue…
There are 100’s of lovely venues out there to choose from. But where do you start? When looking at the different options out there you have to answer a few questions:
5 Questions To Answer Before You Choose Your Venue:
1. How many guests will I have?
2. Do they offer accommodation?
3. Do I want extra accommodation?
4. How much am I willing to spend?
5. What needs to be included? – decor, food, etc.
In this quick tips video, Aleit discusses what you need to look out for in your venue hire contract:
These are the most important questions. There are many more questions like, how to do the glasses, cutlery, crockery, and linen look, and if it is included. What furniture is included, how long do we have to set up and break down, how is the electricity for extra light, how expensive are the bar and their wines… and much more.
Small extras to remember: If you choose a week-day or wintertime you can often get a good discount. When the venue suggests for instance 100 guests maximum. Do not try for 120 and think it will be fine. It will not. You will have cramped spaces, waiters brushing against people, and an uncomfortable wedding. Trust the venue about this. They know their venue! Only view venues that you can afford, that are available and answered all your questions.
Deciding on the number of guests will greatly narrow down your venue choices. The majority of South African venues can cater for about 120 guests but indoors with a dance floor. However, there are bespoke venues that can cater for smaller weddings of 50 guests. Only a few venues can accommodate a party of 200 people and more. Given the current restrictions on South African gatherings be sure to keep your guest list to a maximum of 100 if you are having an indoor wedding and 250 if you are having an outdoor wedding.

One of the first reasons why destination weddings in South Africa are so popular is due to the scenery. We really have every kind of setting you could possibly want as the backdrop of your wedding day; beaches, vineyards, countryside, mountains, bushveld. The Cape Winelands and Stellenbosch are filled with venues boasting old Dutch architecture. Each of these venues is wrapped around mountain ranges and vineyards (you certainly won’t have to worry about running out of wine on your big day)!
