Garden Route Weddings

The Garden Route district is part of the Western Cape Province in South Africa. It stretches from the coastal town of Mossel Bay all the way up to the Storms River. The region is known for a variety of landscapes, from sandy white beaches and lagoons to lush indigenous forests.

Here you will find forests where the elephants used to roam… rumour has it that you could still spot one of these peaceful giants if you’re lucky! The Garden Route is aptly named because it is one of the highest rainfall regions in South Africa, which promises almost year-round lush greenery.

Most of the Garden Route Wedding Venues can be found in and around George, the largest town in the region. Venues range from purpose-built facilities to stunning beach venues, hotels, forest venues and game lodges. This area is one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa and is a very popular tourist and holiday destination. This is the perfect location for a destination wedding in SA.

George Airport is conveniently located just outside the town of George and it is only 50 minutes from Knysna and just over an hour to Plettenberg Bay. Accommodation along the Garden Route is plentiful.

The Garden Route is home to some 10 nature reserves embracing the varied ecosystems of the area. This is a very popular eco-tourism area with nearly 300 bird species to be found here. Other popular attractions in the area include Die Groot Boom and hiking, forest zipline tours and segway tours. The area is also a very popular Honeymoon destination in South Africa.

Beaches and the Coastline

The coastline of the Route features stunning, picturesque sandy beaches that are perfect for your beach wedding. It also houses unique marine reserves, home to soft coral reefs, dolphins, seals and a host of other marine life. Various bays along the Garden Route are nurseries to the endangered Southern Right Whale which go there to calve in the winter and spring (July to December).
