The Venue
The first thing your winter wedding venue needs to cover is the fact that it needs to be able to host your entire wedding indoors, from your ceremony all the way through to your reception. The second thing that you have to look at is, how warm is the space? Are there some wooden floor elements? Is the furniture nice and intimate? And lastly, does it have a fireplace? “There is something about a fireplace that always brings everybody into a space and just makes it feel nice and warm and cozy.” Jade Vollgraaff, JC Events
If you are a smaller group of 50 people, as the government is allowing right now, you may want to consider a really large venue. Winter wedding implies is that you may not be able to be outdoors as much as you would in summer, so you could transform a really large space into different beautiful sections. You could have the ceremony on one end, cornered or panelled off. The pre-drinks section and then move into your reception so you may be looking at a venue that host 300 people for 50 guests and really creating a beautiful setting across three different parts of the day in one large venue.
Think Comfort
If people are cold at the wedding that’s the only thing that they are going to remember. They won’t remember the delicious food, they won’t remember the opening dance, they’ll just remember how cold they were. It should be warm. It should be comfortable. It should be cosy. Check-in with the venue that they offer some patio heating or some fire pits; you can even rent beautiful diamond shape gas heaters that you can bring into the venue. Make use of lots of candles because it really does help, and ensure there’s great wine and a hearty meal. You can have little favour blankets at the ceremony, pre-drinks and reception that the guests can take with them afterwards.
Winter Wedding Theme
Who doesn’t like candle-light? It is also trending at the moment so it’s really nice to have tons of candles even without florals on the tables.
Don’t make the mistake to just follow the same winter colour scheme. “I always say when your children look at your wedding photographs you want them to say, “Gosh Mom! Look at how beautiful your dress was and your decor it is timeless! It is elegant! So always keep that in mind. Even should you get married in winter. Have a timeless approach and nothing, nothing stops you to have a summery themed reception as long as your guests remain warm.” – Aleit Swanepoel, Aleit Weddings
