Wedding Dress Trends for 2021 & 2022
Wedding Dress Trends 2021 & 2022
Here are the Wedding Dress Trends for 2021 & 2022. There’s been a lot of focus on elopement dresses because of COVID. Bridal couples are wanting to get married as soon as they get the chance, so a lot of brides have opted for a more minimalistic approach. To be creative in the minimalistic approach, designers use simple fabrics but make them a bit more interesting and detailed. For example, adding pleats and folds. Think massive bows, giving the dress a bit more character but again with a simple fabric.

Wedding dresses with sleeves
Another massive trend that we’ve been seeing is definitely sleeves. That wedding dress trend has been going on for a while! Brides are using sleeves to incorporate a bohemian look into a wedding dress. When you think of elopement, it’s almost like the gown styles got relaxed. This creates a straightforward and romantic kind of feel for the wedding.
What about the back of the wedding dress?
Another big trend has been a lot of accentuation on the back. Brides are going for interesting backs like low backs. Anything that creates a unique emphasis on the back and the shaping around the back. What brides tend to be drawing away from, are very elaborate ball gowns. First of all, they are a lot more expensive, because they require a lot more fabric and brides have gone for the more simple silhouettes. Maybe even a slimmer silhouette with an overskirt, or a cape made from tulle instead. A lot of colours have also been incorporated into the wedding dress industry like blush, pink, and champagne. This means moving away from the very traditional white wedding dress.
Wedding Dress Trends 2021 & 2022 preparation
A lot of the trends that happened in 2019 were in preparation for the 2020 trends. However, this is still going to carry through to 2021-22 where you as a bride might have your eye on a certain look and a certain kind of wedding dress. There’s going to be a very slow transition from where we were a year or two ago going into next year. This is not a bad thing since weddings had to be postponed from last year onward. You will still get the chance to wear the dress that you’ve wanted a couple of years ago. You’re still going to be able to wear it next year without feeling like it’s outdated or that you’ve seen it on so many people and you don’t want to follow the trend.
How are wedding themes influenced?
We are still seeing a trend towards a more bohemian and relaxed wedding theme. This is due to the fact that weddings have guest limitations. Imagine the setting being a garden area or a restaurant which many people have opted for now, so the wedding style becomes a little bit more relaxed. We still see a lot of loose-fitting skirts with details like a crochet kind of lace. something that’s still very beautiful with a balance between the simple and fine subtle details. Definitely something where brides feel comfortable to be able to move in between guests and a smaller space where tables are closer together. Requests for basic slip dresses have become quite popular!
What wedding shoes are trending now?
With wedding dresses being so easy and super relaxed, brides are going for block heels. We haven’t seen wedges in a while. Brides have underestimated how wobbly a wedge can be on grass, whereas a block heel is steady! With a steady block heel, your feet and toes can bend while you walk, which gives you more stability. This is something that can last throughout the night. Block heels in a nude or an off-white are great. Even a light cognac brown or something neutral that can go with any kind of wedding dress.Image from Opari
What about veils and accessories?
When it comes to veils, we’ve definitely been seeing a lot of brides going for something shiny like some beads that would be quite dense on the top and then gradually less towards the bottom. As for accessories, we’re not seeing big earrings anymore. We see a lot of brides actually that love to support local independent jewellery makers. Something that is quite simple or that’s an art piece more than it is just an accessory. Definitely staying away from those massive shiny chandelier types of earrings. Brides tend not to wear necklaces with their wedding dresses anymore. It might be because we’ve seen halter necks that wanted to make a comeback. This hasn’t picked up quite yet as weddings came to a bit of a standstill. Clutch bags as well, that’s what bridesmaids are for! They are there so that they can carry your lipstick and your mascara around!
