Lately we are seeing many brides choosing more feminine styles for the weddings – and with that comes the rise of the Bohemian Wedding Dress
. What makes this particular style of wedding dress so unique, is the simple elegance and feminity of the cut, the soft and flowy textures of the fabric. It speaks to a simpler time, however, don’t be fooled! These dresses can be just as exquisite as traditional gowns.
Bo & Luca Bohemian Wedding Dress Collection
We had the pleasure of attending the Private Salon Show of Bo & Luca’s collection in Cape Town last week. Shannon Pittman, who is the founder of Bo & Luca
, gave us a little history on the company and where her inspiration comes from. Originally from Australia, Shannon spent her twenties travelling, and found herself in Dubai where she was captivated by the expert tailors of the city – working not from patterns but simply the flow of the fabric against the curve of the body. She spent her time learning from them and started Bo & Luca in 2012. She specialises in completely handmade wedding gowns for the bride who is looking for something entirely unique. She refers to her creations specifically as gowns, because “A dress can be an every day garment, a gown is something special”. She does not use patterns for her gowns, and every detail is handmade, dyed by hand, hand stitched – nothing is mass produced.
We had the thrill of having the iconic Jackie Burger
introduce the collection, and hearing her take on where Bridal fashion is heading. Jackie says she is looking forward to the “resurgence of feminity and the emergence of casual” when it comes to bridal wear. We can see this trend with lace gowns and bell sleeves
, plenty of floral fabrics
and deep V’s accentuating the grace of the female form. Jackie is also looking forward to the White Tuxedo
, which will be making an appearance soon, and which will bring a completely unique look to bridal wear.
The most notable traits of a Bo & Luca gown for us, is definitely the Essence of Bohemian and Relaxed Luxury. These gowns are pieces that tell a story, something which is important to Shannon. She creates gowns that are timeless, with considered detail, which will become heirlooms.
We want to thank Bo & Luca and Jenna McArthur PR
for including us in this fabulous event. We were treated to incredible savoury and sweet treats by M Pâtisserie and Ma Mere Confections, and the L’Ormarins Brut Classique NV was the perfect accompaniment to this luscious event. The incredible floral bouquets were done by Blomboy
, Aspen Flowers and Fleur le Cordeur
Thank you to Elandi from ZaraZoo Photography
