Boho Bushveld Wedding Theme
The Boho Bushveld wedding theme is something modern, trendy and truly South African. Pink Book Weddings teamed up with some of great wedding vendors in the Western Cape to create this unique styled shoot. We aimed to create a striking setup that combined both whimsical bohemian elements of lights and macrame with the natural setting of the African bushveld.
Combining Bohemian Style with the African Bushveld
Jan Harmsgat Country House is a secluded farm near Swellendam, approximately 2-hours outside of Cape Town. This wine farm wedding venue also offers 5-star guest accommodation, which we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy. We were fortunate to be able to have this venue as the setting of our shoot, as it perfectly suited the theme and colour scheme we had in mind. Francois and the team welcomed us with big smiles and amazing food. And a few glasses of JHG Wine helped get everyone in the spirit for the coming photoshoot.
The venue was ideal for our boho bushveld wedding theme. From the historic buildings and quaint decor elements to the sprawling farmlands and mountains in the background. Everything made you long for the peaceful South African country life. The venue’s off-road safari vehicle added that extra touch to emphasize the wildlife setting. And the ruggedness of the 4×4 contrasted beautifully with the graceful look of our bride and the intricate floral bouquet.
The Wedding Dresses, Jewellery & Makeup
Local wedding dress designer, Elouise Rhoode supplied three stunning gowns for this shoot. Each dress was elegant and sleek, with beautiful touches of lace and beads. Elouise gave us the freedom to do whatever it takes to get those winning shots, including traipsing through the bush.
The beautiful dresses were complimented by bespoke jewellery pieces supplied by Black Betty Jewellery Design in Cape Town. They supplied striking pieces featuring large, bulky gemstones placed in glamorous gold. Their jewellery shined through the entire photoshoot and emphasized how important your jewellery choice is for your wedding day. Of course your wedding ring will be the main focus for the day, but don’t forget about earrings and a necklace.
Our model’s makeup and hair was beautifully styled by Cape Town artist, Makeup & Hair by MB. She created a look that was soft and natural overall, with a slight darker share to emphasize the model’s beautiful eyes. This went perfectly with the elegant dress and contrasting dramatic jewellery.
Flowers, decor, and lots of lights
Jean and her team from Aspen Flower & Co. did an incredible job with the decor and flowers for this photoshoot. They combined earthy tones and floral elements with complementary shades of red, pink and mauve. A stunning homage to the theme while including fresh new ideas. The wedding arch, draped in a dramatic red, contrasted perfectly with the natural surroundings. The spectacular macrame hanging backdrop from No Negative Handmade Decor, was a must for this shoot. Nothing says “bohemian” quite like a stunning knotted art piece.
The table was setup up with cascading fairy lights and an amazingly lit centerpiece was the focal point of our outdoor bohemian wedding reception. The flickering flames of dozens of candles added a dreamy atmosphere to the open air setting. The beautiful wedding stationery was designed and supplied by Haley from Poppery Paperie.
An Amazing Photoshoot
The amazing Coba Uys, from Coba Photography, helped bring this photoshoot to life. She captured every moment, both on photo and video. Her experienced, professional directions helped our bridal model relax and perfectly pose for all the shots. The end results were amazing.
When our shoot concluded, the team at Jan Harmsgat spoiled us with an amazing dinner and some more delicious wine. Their restaurant is open to the public which created an incredible atmosphere. The accommodation was impeccable and definitely left a lasting impression on the Pink Book team. Professional at all times with a great sense of humour, this styled shoot team pulled together and created breathtaking content for all to enjoy! THANKS so much to all the amazing vendors who made this photoshoot possible.
