Tones Of The Earth Styled Shoot Captured By Lily & Wild Photography
Jaqui from Lily & Wild wrote us a few words about the inspiration of this Tones of the Earth Styled Shoot.
Concept & Photography by Jaqui from Lily & Wild Photography. “When I conceptualized Tones of the Earth styled shoot; it started with the simple warm earth tone palette and grew to include textures from the earth. With the use of raw terracotta, leather and wovens. I wanted to not only see the tones but feel them.”

Traditional Wedding Attire
“We imagined showcasing a modern cultural wedding which embraced elements from across cultures, as is clearly seen with the full body, pearl embellished, dream bridal gown from Ilse Roux which was then coupled with an African Isicholo which is traditionally worn by a married woman.”
Soft Natural Wedding Suit
“Grooms suits from Weddings Bells Suit Hire – The main suit in a soft natural stone shade but accessorized with leather tie & trim in warm toffee tones, complimenting the tones and textures of the overall look and feel of the bridal couple look.”
Earth Inspired Wedding Stationary
Stationery by Carmen from Purple Forest Design Studio – “Inspiration was drawn from natural textures and earth inspired tones. This was combined with modern fonts and shapes to create the stationery set”
African Wedding Flowers & Decor
Flowers & Table decor by Lorraine from LOL’s Flowers – “As a florist there is no doubt that I love to work with colour, personally, I am drawn to more earthy tones in my own home, styling and décor. Here in African we have a diverse range of earth tones from browns and tans to red, ochre and even black. When I think of Africa, it’s the sunsets that come to mind that are echoed in the colours of the land and I hope that this is reflected in the colour palette used, rich reds, terracotta, mustard and sand.”
Wedding Tower Cheese Cake
Cake & Olive Bar – “Choosing to forego the traditional sweet wedding cake and replacing it with a tower of cheeses to highlight a new trend in wedding cakes was pure genius and just blended beautifully into the overall look and feel of the shoot. Nestled in the olive bar, created a savoury delight for guests to enjoy.”
Forest Wedding Venues
Nestled between picturesque wine farms and offering breath-taking views, Winery Road Forest is an exclusive and private forest wedding venue with a natural pine forest quietly tucked away from noisy highways. Whether you are traditional, vintage, rustic, contemporary, or whim-sickle, their venue adapts to bring out your personal style, look and feel of your wedding day.

African Queen Bridal Makeup
Make-up by Nicole Grant – “I wanted to use warm, rich tones in shades of terracotta, reds and brown to really bring out the warmth in their skins undertone. Making them glow and look like African Queens was my inspiration for this shoot”

Reception Wedding Dress
“But this is a young modern bride so the reception dress was a mustard tulle designed by Hey Belly and exclusively available to rent from Blossoms and Belle which was adorned with an African Shweshwe fabric head scarf. We showcased two bridesmaids’ looks, again in the warm tones of burgundy & toffee brown in layers of tulle creating more texture and warmth.”
Western Cape Wedding Photographer
“I have longed to do a modern African shoot. But I didn’t want the shoot to feel twee by incorporating beadwork or overtly African imagery. Shwe shwe, which is uniquely African and available in a myriad of colours. There was no doubt that it was going to feature somewhere in the table set up. I wanted the tablescape to appeal to the modern African bride by using modern candlelight, cutlery and floral styling that echo an African heritage.”
African Wedding Styled Shoot
“Africa also has a texture and a smell, I wanted to include elements such as woven grass which has a distinct aroma and feel, wood, terracotta and the warmth of leather.”
Africa is rich in colour, texture, smells and sounds and to bring a mix of elements together. Celebrating that abundance of diversity truly creates a magical wedding storyboard.
