Silver Tides: A Styled Shoot at The Twelve Apostles

The Wedding Fairy grew up along the Cape Town coast. The ocean has always been the thing that grounds her; the morning mist sitting low on the water, the way the light bounces off the waves before the rest of the city wakes up, the weight of the wind and the sound of the tide. It’s where her best ideas come from.

So, when she started sketching out the concept for Silver Tides, it wasn’t a mood board that started it. It was a feeling.

The name came from that place. The way silver light catches a wave at a certain hour. The movement of the ocean; constant, unhurried, flowing – translated into the softness of satin and draped fabric. The reflective quality of water mirrored in brushed silver accents and mirrored surfaces. Everything came back to that coastline, and what better backdrop to bring it to life than The Twelve Apostles, one of Cape Town’s most iconic hotels, sitting right at the edge of the Atlantic.

After a long season, this one was for the industry

This shoot wasn’t just a creative exercise. After a big wedding season, the Cape Town Wedding Planner wanted to give the industry something back. A proper space to breathe, to play, and to remember why they do this. No client briefs, no timelines, just a really good team in a beautiful location with a concept that excited everyone.

Getting there wasn’t exactly smooth. The shoot was moved twice thanks to one of Cape Town’s notorious storms rolling in, and even on the day they finally got to shoot, the wind had absolutely zero interest in cooperating.

But the team did not flinch. That’s what you get when you pull together people who genuinely love their craft and have enough years of experience under their belts to think on their feet and weather any storm (literally).

The Design

The palette for Silver Tides was powder blue, pearl ivory, and brushed silver, layered with crystal textures and soft mist-grey tones.

The whole concept was built around the idea of the ocean at different points in the day: the grey-blue of early morning mist, the pearl of the sky just before the sun breaks through, the shimmer of full light on water.

The Grand Botanist brought her sharp design eye (and a strong background in the film world) to the florals and styling concept, including a modern bridal bouquet using satin silver materials and woven elements – a look very much having a moment right now in the floral world.

Grand Room Design handled the tabletop elements. Their team knows how to take a concept and build it into something you can actually feel when you walk into a space.

Love Wildly Designs created a suite of custom silver stationery with a mix of mirrors, blue accents, and unexpected shapes that felt more like art objects than paper products.

Blos Bakery and Louise Artistry delivered a classic white cake, a tower of madeleines, chocolate treats, and tiramisu – all made extra spectacular with diamonds from Shimansky Jewellery.

Because yes, they absolutely put diamonds on the dessert table, and no, they are not sorry.

The ceremony space came together with a silver arch from The Minimalist, Siren glasses from Bare Home Decor, and powder blue fabric draped into long, flowing installations that caught the sea breeze exactly as intended.

The ottoman seating gave the whole setup a couture runway feel — very Vogue Bridal, not very standard wedding tent.

The Fashion

The Wedding Collective styled the models across four looks, each one distinct and genuinely worth talking about:

Liam came with a neck scarf, hat, and cathedral plain veil. The dropped waist on this one is straight off next season’s runways, and the pearly sheen of the fabric is made for a seascape.

Sharon, worn with tulle pearl gloves, is the kind of dress that demands a room. Statement silhouette, and it would look incredible with a chunky choker layered over the top.

Gunya was styled with sunglasses; effortlessly cool and the kind of piece that transforms into the flirtiest cocktail dress depending on how you style it.

Biel, styled with a plain cathedral veil, has an Art Deco pearl finish that was made for close-up shots.

Shimansky styled the jewellery throughout, with diamonds doing what diamonds do – making everything feel like more.

Their My Girl diamond cut (patented in 2003 and notably the first South African diamond-cut patent in the world) happens to be The Wedding Fairy’s personal favourite ring in existence – one that reportedly has to be gently pried off her fingers at every Shimansky visit.

Hair and makeup by Pearl Artistry transformed the models into dewy, glistening, fresh-from-the-ocean beauty, with skin and hair that looked kissed by the South African sun.

The Italian groom was dressed by Beiport Suit Hire, with a cravat as the statement piece and a tailcoat bringing the full glamour through.

Behind the Lens

Daniel Steyn shot the whole day.

Daniel has a way of working that feels different from a lot of Cape Town photography; behind the scenes and natural, but with a very specific eye and point of view. He’s quietly shifting what wedding photography looks like in this city.

This was captured alongside Brad Jackson Studios for video.

Daniel and Brad work together in a way that’s rare — complementary without being interchangeable — and the results show.

What this was really about

Beyond the beautiful images and the excellent cake, this shoot was about something bigger.

The wedding industry in Cape Town is incredibly talented, but it can also be competitive in ways that don’t serve anyone.

The Wedding Fairy wanted this to be a reminder that when the industry supports one another, and when creatives genuinely root for the person next to them. The work is better, the day is better, and everyone goes home feeling like themselves again.

Silver Tides was that.

A reset. A collaboration. A love letter to the ocean that raised her and the industry she’s given the last decade of her life to.

And worth every bit of wind.
