Hogan and Christopher got married at a boutique restaurant just outside of Stilbaai. They had planned their entire wedding from Pretoria, but by keeping their guest list small, they managed to pull off an intimate and small wedding on the South Coast of the Western Cape. This Real Wedding inspiration was captured by Mandi Scholtz Photography and we just love how relaxed both bride and groom looked on their special day.
Where did you get your Ideas & Inspiration?
I drew my inspiration from Pink Book and Pinterest.
Tell us about your dress?
It was a vintage, mermaid style dress with soft edges and beautiful lace detail on the dress as seen in photos. This was the third dress I fitted and it just took my breath away. I bought it from ChiqWawa.
How did you pick your photographer?
Mandi Scholtz was one of the first photographers to pop up under Western Cape photographers. She captured us with her beautiful website and an awesome gallery of beautiful, natural photos. We wanted someone to make us feel comfortable and to bring the best out of us and she did just that!
What made you choose your venue?
Stilbaai is a very small town in the Western Cape which is close to my heart as we’ve been going to Jongensfontein for holiday the past 14 years and the simplicity and beauty of the area is just amazing – Fynbos growing everywhere and beautiful olive farms. Inverroche Distillery which is situated on the Riverdale road outside Stilbaai was a great venue to have our wedding lunch/reception. They had a simple menu which was just enough and the look suited our vintage theme.
Where did you cut costs – what is a good saving tip?
We took in consideration the guests we wanted at our wedding. Always remember what this day is all about and realise that only close family and best friends are necessary to have on your wedding day. So many people these days said “If we could do it all over again, we would have a much smaller wedding” So there we go, your best saving tip is the amount of guests. And let us tell you – that was the best decision we made!
What did you splurge on?
Our honeymoon of course! We travelled to Oudtshoorn, De Rust, Prince Albert and Napier. All the places in the Great Karoo that one never stops at and explore. We had a great time exploring the nearby towns as well and tried out every restaurant and pub we could find. We also went on the famous Route 62 on our way to Napier. Took in every moment of the Swart Berg Pass and enjoyed every moment. One always rushes through the Karoo to your final destination. This time around we developed a new soft spot for the beautiful landscapes and less traveled roads!
What was the most difficult part of the planning process?
The most difficult part was to plan the wedding from Pretoria. This was tricky seeing that we needed to go on things like photos, websites and phone calls to make this possible. In the end, it all worked out perfectly!
Did you do any DIYs?
Almost everything we did ourselves with the help of family. From the guest gifts to the table setting and holders for the flowers and candles. I picked my own bouquet the day before and did my own hair and make-up. It was quite a hand full but it was all worth it!
