Real Wedding: Kevin & Hayley

“On 15 January I lost my Mom to cancer, and then nearly a month later I lost my step mom to Covid. Two years in the lead up to our big day, my Mom helped me plan my wedding from my dress to my decor. My step mom took on the mom role when mine got too sick to walk.”

“It was a harrowing time, but at the end of the day it was my father who saved the day. He said we need to continue with our wedding, as our family had been through too much heartache.”

“So in the month leading up to my own wedding I had my moms memorial on her favourite beach in Cape Town, Long Beach Kommetjie. Then the very next day an explosive bachelorette.”

“On 27 March 2021, Kevin and I got married. It was one of the hardest mornings of my life, knowing my mom’s weren’t there. But, I walked down the aisle knowing they were there in spirit. We got married at my husband’s parents farm called Verbara Lodge which is just outside Ballito. We plan to move to the lodge in November.”

“All the blue and white decor was my mom’s, and all the table seating charts were hand drawn by my best friend and groomsmen Trevor Potter, who is an established artist in Cape Town. Cecile Birkenstock was our wedding coordinator from Bydezine Weddings. She was truly amazing and did all the food and decor.”

“Alida Campbell of Elysian Photography captured our day. She is incredibly talented and I believe her work needs exposure as she offers such reasonable packages and shoots with her husband. They are truly amazing people. I studied filming at UCT, and their approach blew me away.”
