Dewald & Marita got married on a hot summer’s weekend in January 2022 in the small Karoo town of Williston. The weekend was blessed with sunny, humid days and afternoon thunderstorms that made for stunning sunsets. Always wanting to get married when it rained; this weather suited the bride perfectly.

The Celebrations

Celebrations kicked off with a braai on the Friday night. Where guests were treated to locally produced lamb chops, ‘roosterkoek’ and true Karoo hospitality.

Ceremony at the Impressive Old “Klip” Church

The ceremony took place on the Saturday afternoon in the church in town which is an impressive old “klip” building. What made the ceremony extra special was that the bride’s grandmother played the organ while she and her entourage walked in.

Using Local Vendors

This wedding focused on using what was available in the immediate area rather than hiring and having to transport from several 100 km’s away. This was made possible by having local vendors that could prepare the food and help to decorate the hall, as well as people who were willing to jump in and help with whatever else was needed; mostly free of charge. It was a truly special weekend and a wedding the families can look back on with fond memories for years to come.

The Reception

The reception was held in a hall in town that was decorated minimalistic with white Lisianthus flowers mixed with greenery and a few candles on wooden tables. Also forming part of the décor was odd wooden chairs for guests to be seated on and naked bulbs hanging form the ceiling. The feel of the reception was relaxed but classy.
