South Africa is a mixing pot of cultures and religions and it is the perfect setting for love to bring together families from different backgrounds. Wedding photographer, Ruth du Toit
, shared this beautiful interfaith wedding with us. The lovely couple, Kirsten and Alykhan are of Christian and Muslim religions respectively. Their wedding was celebrated over two days, with a ceremony in each faith – to honour and respect each family’s traditions. Have a look at their beautiful blended wedding celebrations:
The Muslim Wedding Ceremony
The first ceremony to be held was the traditional Islamic ceremony. The groom and his family embraced the lovely bride Kirsten and dressed her in stunning traditional Muslim garb. This ceremony was held at the Sunny Side Park Hotel
in Johannesburg. Photographer Ruth beautifully captured the moments of preparation of both parties, from the ladies in their sarees to the groom in his dapper suit. Both Kirsten and Aly looked stunning in their traditional wear. The henna applied to the bride’s hands and feet was striking and would make a return visit at the white wedding ceremony the next day. The evening ended with delicious food, colourful dancing and lots of celebrations.
The Christian Wedding Ceremony
On the second day, the Christian ceremony was held at Avianto Wedding Venue
in Johannesburg. Touches of the white and burgundy colour scheme was pulled through in everything from the decor to the flower girl dresses. Bride Kirsten looked breathtaking in a white wedding gown with lace embellishments. While groom Alykhan wore a smart navy blue suit and tie, looking very dashing. The families joined together for a ceremony in the chapel and a lovely reception afterwards. The couple photos were taken in the blooming lavender fields at Avianto.
Deciding on how to proceed with an interfaith wedding ceremony might be a difficult task. However, Aly and Kirsten handled it beautifully. If you have any tips and advice, or stories about real weddings combing two religions, join our Wedding Chat & Advice group
