Gourikwa Reserve

Johannes and Annabelle loved every bit of their wedding day at Gourikwa Reserve in December 2019. “We enjoyed it and soaked up every special moment,” says Annabelle. “I wanted the day to glorify God above all else…and it did.”

Wedding dress

Annabelle’s dress was from Jean Nalida in George. “I wanted silk and something elegant and simple. When I had the dress on I just knew it was the one, like they say. Ha! And at my surprise the dress danced really easy, I was comfortable and felt like a true bride. That was the most important.”

Ceremony

With the chapel overlooking the ocean, there can’t be many wedding venues that compare to Gourikwa’s offering. The picturesque chapel with a thatch roof and bell tower played host to Johannes and Annabelle’s wedding which truly was amazing. Her dad married them which was very special.

Reception

The reception was just as the couple wanted it, they made so many special memories while setting up the reception area the night before. The whole family helped. Some did the tables, some did the wheat hanging from the roof. “It was so much fun and we saved a lot of money! I wanted the decor to be, like they say, “less is more.” The tables had mustard yellow vases with a single white delphinium in each. They made use of recycled wine bottles and bought white candles to put inside. There were lots of them on the tables.

“During harvest time we collected wheat on our farm because it had such a significant meaning to us.” They clumped the wheat strings into bunches which they hung off the chandeliers at the wedding reception.

They had olive tree branches and eucalyptus leaves on the tables with lots of grapes. On each plate they had n elegant white serviettes with a big ciabatta. The ciabatta was wrapped in paper with a bible verse on it and a single stem rosemary… the bible verse was John 6:48 “I am the bread which is life”.

“We loved having the bridal table separate from the guests because it allows us to sit back and soak in the beautiful moments. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. It was wonderful to sit for a few minutes looking at our happy families, friends and most importantly one another. We will cherish our wedding day forever in our hearts, it’s such a special day to share with close family and friends.”
