Flower Girl Dresses
The flower girl
will probably be the sweetest member of your wedding party, and dressing her is an opportunity to indulge your inner child, be a little playful and add another element to your wedding day style! She is typically three to eight years old – we say typically because there are no rules! It is your wedding day after all! The flower girl is usually someone who is a relative of the bride or the groom, or the child of someone close to them. Her role is to precede the maid of honour down the aisle, scattering flowers as she walks. But now the big question is … choosing your flower girl dresses
, where to begin?
Once you have your wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses, you should have a clear idea of what you’re looking for as far as the overall style of your wedding day. The dress you select for your flower girl can be in the same colour palette as the rest of your wedding party, or you can go with something fun and unique! It really doesn’t matter with which style you go for, however, these guidelines may help you choose:

The Fit Of The Dress
Because flower girls are usually quite young, there is likely to be some growth between the time that you pick the dress and the wedding day, but don’t worry! Just order a size or two up from what she’s currently wearing (depending on your timings and the age of the little one), and you will be fine. With regards to the dress itself, flower girl dresses usually don’t flow all the way down to the ground. Younger flower girls will probably feel more comfortable in a dress which is cut at the heel or knee to move and run around in.
Tip: If at all possible, choose a dress with straps and a reasonably high neckline. Not only will this be more comfortable, it will also prevent any possible wardrobe malfunctions. Try not to put your flower girl into anything too tight or stiff, keep it flowy and add an awesome hair accessory like a flower band or a ribbon to amplify the look!

The Colour Of The Dress
As we’ve mentioned, you can always stick to the same colour pallet as the rest of your wedding party to create a unifying look. However, the most popular colour for flower girls is ivory, often paired with a splash of blush, coral or pale sage green. The other most popular colours are champagne and full pastel colours like blush and pale blue. Not really sure what kind of look or colour to go for? If you’re flexible, try asking the little one for some input. We’re sure that she’ll be excited to give some input!
The Fabric Of The Dress
While the fabric of flower girl dresses should match the wedding aesthetic, stay away from anything too heavy, stiff, or itchy. Since she will probably be moving around a lot on the day, choose something that resists wrinkles and rips, like satin. Satin is one of the most popular fabrics for flower girl dresses because it is durable and comfortable. Chiffon and organza are also safe choices for layering, and tulle can be used as an accent fabric to create a ballerina look. Avoid silk; although the material is extremely comfortable, it tears easily and costs a pretty penny. Give her the kind of dress she can twirl around in, run around in and dance in.
