Set in the seaside town of Nahoon in East London, South Africa, local wedding vendors came together to create a look to capture the rustic coastal charm of the beaches in the area. Nahoon beach was chosen for its majestic rock faces and turquoise waters to create the perfect natural backdrop for the shoot. A focus of movement, form and textures brought the photographs to life.
Lady Marmalaide had the pleasure of showcasing a 2018 beauty from the Modeca 2018 Collection. The Amber dress, a beautifully crafted gown, featured a sweetheart neckline, soft tulle, lace and a fitted silhouette to give a two-in-one look. For the floral aspect, a hand-tied botanical bouquet was created using soft lilacs, blush, dirty pinks and hints of blue to create a soft, feminine bridal feel. Being economically and environmentally friendly, the bouquet was reused for the centrepiece of the table setting.
Regarding the look of the bride, softer tones were used for makeup to blend in with the beachy setting. Using a slight delicate plum colour on the lip and adding some lashes, it made the overall look ‘pop’ on camera. The hair complimented the soft style of the makeup by framing the face with loose wispy pieces. The elegant low upstyle was chosen to show the classic bridal aspect of the shoot and to reveal the form that open back dress created on the bride.
The stationery for this shoot was inspired by the combination of sea glass and a seaside sunset. This look was achieved by using blush tones with a semi-clear paper overlay. Touches of foil were added to bring in a modern feel while the torn and curved edges created a textured, relaxed mood, which related to the style of the day and the menu’s almost looked like they had once been a curled up messages-in-a-bottle. The stationery was placed between the decor on a low, rustic wooden table, specifically chosen to resemble driftwood. The tall candlesticks created a bit of height to elongate the low setting, and patterned vintage plates with antique gold cutlery brought out the old-world shipwreck look. Along with crystal glasses, gold votives and a twisted tablecloth, the vision of the shoot was truly one of coastal charm.
