We love surprises – don’t you? We especially love them if it involves making a girl’s dreams come true. We know that keeping secrets is hard – but it can be so worth it!
We had the pleasure of helping a creative young man plan his ideal proposal. Darren decided to surprise his girlfriend Zandri with a proposal she never expected. She loves photos and has always wanted to have a professional photo shoot done with Darren. He, on the other hand, is a little camera shy and has always avoided this topic whenever she would bring it up. For the surprise proposal, he teamed up with their graphic designer friend Natalie to plan an elaborate surprise. Pink Book, along with a couple of our best suppliers, planned a shoot for the couple at the fabulous La Residence in Franschhoek. When all of our ducks were in a row, the scheming started.
Natalie told Zandri that she was involved in a Styled Shoot at a venue in Franschhoek, but the models dropped out at the last minute. She asked Zandri if she and Darren would mind standing in. So, Zandri had to ask Darren if he would please help their friend out, to which he, of course, said no. After a back and forth between Zandri and Natalie, Zandri asked Darren one last time if they could do it. He finally agreed (under protest)! She was none the wiser.
The morning of the shoot, the couple arrived, and our team played their part. We treated it as a Styled Shoot to showcase the venue and briefed the couple. We had to be careful not to let on that we already knew Darren.
For Darren’s suit, we had a fitting at Jagadi Couture and ended up getting two suits for him. We happened to find a dress that would work fantastically for Zandri. We also got to use a couple of Rene H Couture’s
dresses, and we were armed with choices. We asked the very talented Almari from Makeup and Hairstyling by Almari
to do Zandri’s hair and makeup. It was very clear that Zandri was loving every minute – she felt like a star!
To create a romantic and striking setting, we asked Green Goddess Flower Studio
to create stunning floral runners for the antique furniture. The flowers created a wonderful feeling of elegance and old world glamour. They also created a unique floral neckpiece, which we incorporated with a stunning blush coloured dress with a very low back.
Our photographers were the super trendy couple from The Dollie House. They immediately set the couple at ease and in no time they weren’t even nervous anymore! They understood the look we wanted to go for immediately and captured the day perfectly.
With a lot of patience from all of the suppliers, we changed outfits for different looks in each area of the venue. For the final look, we decided to go for a dramatic black dress with cut-outs and lovely beading from Jagadi Couture. Darren knew the last set-up of the day would be where he would pop the question, and after a couple of shots, we quietly retreated to watch the magical proposal unfold.
Zandri was in shock, to say the least. She initially thought it was all part of the shoot. When she finally realised that her boyfriend was actually proposing, the tears were streaming and we popped the bubbly to help them celebrate. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house and all of the scheming ended up being so worth it.
