Get your ceremony captured in artistic colour and/or your guests are drawn with a touch of humour by Ted Key’s Cartoonist drawing.

Ted offers 2 services to choose from or book in tandem. His ceremony sketches are a beautiful large A3 watercolor drawing that captures the energy and mood of the ceremony. The second service he provides is caricature portrait entertainment during the canapés and/or reception of your special day, these portraits double as take-home gifts to guests at your wedding.

The ceremony sketches are done in ink with watercolour added, providing a timeless recording of the moment.

Ted offers:

1 hour, 90 minute, and 2-hour ceremony drawings. He starts drawing the ceremony scene 30 minutes before the ceremony starts, he adds the guests and bridal couple as the ceremony happens and (for the 90 minute and 2-hour ceremony drawings) he then finishes the drawing on site after the ceremony ends and hands the happy newly married couple their drawing in a large envelope.

He has drawn at dozens of weddings and thousands of festive faces, young and old, have sat for his portraits.

Your guests won’t have to sit warming the seat for too long during the caricatures either. Ted draws 18-20 faces an hour in black and white (that’s around 3 minutes a face). Guests can chat and have a drink as they sit. The drawings are produced on good firm art paper with smudge and fade-proof ink. It comes with a tidy envelope for safekeeping just in case uncle Basil puts his cheesecake dessert down on top of it.

Guest Entertainment

Often you’ll see a crowd gathering and watching over Ted’s shoulder as they laugh with their friends and family being drawn, before they head off to compare drawings and party the night away. Ted also works professionally as a book illustrator. He brings a touch of the book illustration to feel to his ceremony sketches and portraits. Caricatures with a focus on characters. His goal is always to try to capture an expression or a bit of personality first and foremost.

The 1-hour ceremony sketch (started before the ceremony and finished as the ceremony ends) followed by 2 hours of caricature portrait drawing at the canapes, is a popular combo booking.

Ted is Cape Town-based but draws at weddings all over South Africa and works primarily in the Western Cape area including the West Coast, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Durbanville, the Overberg, George, and the Garden Route
