Wedding Dress Designer
VictorK Couture is a South African-born Wedding Dress Designer, most prominently known for his couture evening and bridal gowns.
He unwittingly launched himself into the world of fashion when he began designing high school dance dresses for classmates who couldn’t afford to buy them off the boutiques.
How his dream started, to become a fashion designer actually stemmed from his mother’s own desires. She always spoke so fondly of her own dreams to become a designer, although she pursued to become a loving and caring stay at home, wife and mother.
His grandmother however saw the potential and helped to assist him to get the basic extra classes whilst he was still in high school, through a nearby college that was offering short term courses in garment and pattern making classes. After High School she further assisted by enrolling him into Cape Town College of Fashion Design. This is where his dream, became his reality.
After completing a 3 year diploma at the College, Victor further worked for some of South Africa’s Top Fashion designers in his chosen field and then once he felt ready he started his own brand. This was the Birth of Victor K Couture. His boutique and studio is now located in the heart of Claremont, Cape Town.
The VictorK collections explore the play between masculinity and femininity, between structure and fluidity. Full circle skirts with contrasts of boning and corsetry, while Crystal and beaded elements twinkle against figure-contouring lines. The creations draw on the old-world magic of lace, the sensuousness of silk chiffon’s and the lightness of tulle. Not to mention a broad spectrum of colours, he prefer to work with over the normal pure white dress, includes shades of milky whites, blush, pale pinks, ivory and gold, nude, champagne and everything in-between. While his style has changed and evolved, Victor is celebrated for his innate ability to see a client’s best features and then accentuate those with his creations.
His collections grew out of his love of fabric and colour and design, from the belief that each woman has a beauty in her own right, an essence that deserves recognition. Having designed dresses for women for 18 years, Victor says that one of the most underplayed aspects of women is their inherent inner beauty, often unrecognised by her own self-worth. It’s not about changing ones outer form. It’s about being confident in what body you have been given to work with and making that shine. Confidence exudes and demands attention. When dressing for any occasion one should always dress powerfully, be strong, own your inner beauty and don’t underestimate the strength of femininity.
“One should envisage the whole picture – everything. It’s about how everything works together the makeup, the hair, the mood, the environment, the dress, and the shoes. The collaboration as a whole must all work together.
And most importantly he believes that all of his work would not have been possible without the assistance and support of his family, his staff, and of course the clientele.” Victor Kok
