Description
Jaqueline is a trained Secular Celebrant, who conducts weddings with deeply meaningful, significant ceremonies and rituals that reflect your worldview. With a background in theatre, she is drawn to the power of visual metaphor and understands that embodied, thoughtful gestures and actions can have deep symbolic significance to the people involved.
She serves people of all worldviews and conducts same-sex and inter-faith weddings as well as heterosexual marriages. She considers herself an LGBTIQA+ ally and an activist.
Jaqueline is registered by the Department of Home Affairs to conclude the legal aspects of a marriage or civil union, allowing the couple to combine the celebration of their union with the gravity of solemnising their vows. She is a member of SASS, The South African Secular Society.
Jaqueline believes that every couple is unique and deserves a unique and personalised ceremony; she will collaborate with you and support you in manifesting a ceremony that expresses your true selves and the essence of your commitment.
Humans have been practising ceremonies to mark life events and imbue our actions and milestones with gravitas and meaning for millennia. Different cultures have different traditions with similar as well as unique rituals and practices. When she curates your ceremony with you, instead of following a guidebook or unexamined traditions, Jaqueline can include beautiful moments from around the world that are appropriate for you, sharing with you the original context of the rituals and exploring how the meaning and symbolism resonate with you.
As a marriage officer and secular celebrant, she meets with you as a couple to discuss what is required by law and what other elements you would like to incorporate into your ceremony. If you are undecided about what music, readings, rituals and vows to choose, she will offer advice. She has compilations of music and readings and a range of rituals and vows from different cultural traditions to spark your imagination.
She is skilled at writing and editing and can assist you with writing or refining your personal vows.
Jaqueline officiates secular funerals, memorials, naming ceremonies, and rites of passage as well as marriages.
